This paper is aimed at discussing how visual submissions offer the potential for turning Aysenología into a more accessible and engaging journal to its different audiences. It presents as an example the British journal Museological Review, whose editorial team opened the call to include visual submissions as a main part of its publications, in order to show quality photographs that can tell by their selves a story related to cultural heritage. Whether this format is included as part of the publications of Aysenología, the transmission of information through visual means will enable researchers, students and scientific community to value historic photographs of cultural significance that are currently at risk of conservation. This article concludes stating that visual submissions create an opportunity to study and disseminate the history of the region using digitised photographs.
