Abstract: In order to investigate the feasibility of composting rabbit carcasses with various substrates, six treatments were established according to the substrate used: oat straw-rabbit manure-dead rabbit (PAEC), wood shavings- rabbit manure- dead rabbit (EVC) and oat straw-dead rabbit (PAC), with or without the addition of 0.3 % ( v / w) mixed microbial inoculum consisting of Streptomyces spp, Aspergillus sp, Cladosporium sp. Temperature, pH, dry matter (DM ), moisture, organic matter (OM), ash and ammonia was measured. The substrates were aerated by turning at 25 days of composting. The analysis was performed with the GLM procedure (SAS, 2009) and the Tukey test. The inoculum had no effect on the composting of the substrates investigated. The PAC had the highest substrate temperature (30 ° C), although this is low compared to conventional composting which manure. After the substrates were overturned, the temperature increased only in PAEC. Compost PAC had a low content of organic matter and a more alkaline pH. It was concluded that it is feasible composting dead rabbit, but to optimize the process requires improving the conditions of composting to achieve a higher temperature and mineralization and reduce nitrogen loss by degradation of the protein of meat.
Translated abstract: Con el objetivo de investigar la factibilidad de compostar cadáveres de conejo con diversos sustratos, se establecieron seis tratamientos de acuerdo con los sustrato utilizado: paja de avena-estiércol-cadáver de conejo (PAEC), viruta de madera-estiércol-cadáver de conejo (EVC) y paja de avena-cadáver de conejo (PAC), con o sin la adición de 0.3% (v/p) de inóculo microbiano mixto constituido por Streptomyces spp, Aspergillus sp, Cladosporium sp. Se midió la temperatura, pH, materia seca (MS), humedad, materia orgánica (MO), cenizas y nitrógeno amoniacal. Los sustratos fueron aireados por volteo a los 25 días de compostaje. El análisis se realizó con el procedimiento GLM (SAS, 2009) y la prueba Tukey. El inóculo no tuvo efecto en el compostaje de los sustratos investigados. El sustrato PAC tuvo la mayor temperatura (30°C), aunque esta es baja con respecto al compostaje convencional de estiércol. Después que los sustratos fueron volteados, la temperatura incrementó sólo en PAEC. La composta de PAC tuvo un contenido de MO bajo y un pH más alcalino. Se concluyó que es factible el compostaje de cadáver de conejo, pero para optimizar el proceso se requiere mejorar las condiciones de compostaje para alcanzar una mayor temperatura y mineralización, y reducir la pérdida de nitrógeno por la degradación de la proteína de la carne.
