| Resumen: | The figure of the Double can be found in several exemples when we talk about Jorge Luis Borges’ short stories. In this research, we have stabilished some general considerations about the idea of alterity. Besides, it has been done some analysis of the short stories in which we can observe a fragmented self as well where there is a confrontation between the self and the other. Our purpose is to verify how the relationship between the self and the other takes place and also the relation between the self with himself in the process of duplication. In this context it has been used some concepts of Bakhtin as excedente de visão and self-conciousness, as part of the theorectical support. A divided being as noticed in some of the characters in the analysed short stories can be a way the author managed to show his perception of subjetivity, in a global meaning. It is this divided being between the self and the other that Borges tryes to capture. |

| Resumen traducido: | Nos contos de Jorge Luis Borges, encontram-se inúmeros exemplos da figura do duplo. Neste trabalho são estabelecidas considerações gerais sobre a ideia de alteridade presente neste processo, além de análises de contos em que se faz presente a fragmentação do eu, bem como o confronto do eu com o outro. O objetivo é verificar como se opera a relação entre o eu e o outro, assim como aquela que se estabelece entre o eu e o mesmo ao duplicar-se. Nesse contexto, fazemos uso dos conceitos bakhtinianos excedente de visão e autoconsciência, como suporte teórico. A cisão do ser perceptível nas personagens dos contos analisados parece se configurar como uma tentativa conseguida pelo autor para refletir sua visão acerca da subjetividade, em seu sentido universal: é esse eu cindido entre o eu e o outro que Borges busca retratar. |
