Translated abstract: The present article presents a historical perspective of the musical education in schools of regular formal education in Brazil. Three moments are studied: the musical practices of the jesuitic education in the colonial period, the orpheonic singing in the Vargas Era and the music as one of the languages in the discipline of Artistic Education. In this perspective, it is desired to analyze the favourable and unfavourable moments to the musical education in the political context of Brazilian education. Regarding the methodological aspects, the study is a bibliographical revision that keeps articulated with the ideas of Ivor Godson on the history of the disciplines. As result, it was concluded that the effective execution of the musical education in formal education is an inter-institutional challenge, and therefore it seems possible from the joint action of the State and School, that is, of professionals of the area, researchers, professors, teachers and entities that congregate these agents.
