Abstract: This article focuses on the not always explicit dialogue between Émile Durkheim and Michel Foucault on the issue of suicide. It seeks to summarize both authors’ approach to the subject by showing the conceptual network in which they acquire meaning. It also discusses the way in which Durkheim understands morality as a vital requirement for the happiness of the individual, as opposed to Foucault’s politicization of death as an act of resistance against particular forms of administering life.
Translated abstract: El presente artículo busca tensar el diálogo no siempre explícito entre Émile Durkheim y Michel Foucault, a través del tema del suicidio. Se desea desarrollar sintéticamente las problematizaciones de ambos autores sobre dicho tema, mostrando la red conceptual en que las mismas adquieren sentido. Asimismo, se expone la forma en la que Durkheim comprende la moralidad como un componente vital para lafelicidad del individuo, frente a la politización foucaultiana de la muerte como un acto de resistencia en contra de formas particulares de administración de la vida.
