| Abstract: | The purpose of the paper was to characterise the Journal of Medicine and Movies by carrying out an exploratory study of the articles published during 2005-2008. The data were obtained from the journal by extracting information about articles, authorships, bibliographic references, key words and covers. Quantitative bibliometric production and consumption indicators were calculated. Original papers were recorded in a percentage of 54%; concerning authorships, a cooperation index of 1.82 authors/article was stated and 52% were signed by a single author. The authors’ geographical place of origin showed a predominance of Salamanca, followed by a growing participation of authors from other places in Spain. The average number of quotes per article was about 8, comparable to the results of the bibliometric map of Spain, Price Index being close to 39%. The most indexed documents were books and articles from scientific journals and 47% of the total of the references came from documents in Spanish. The Journal of Medicine and Movies has evolved satisfactorily, keeping within the general indicators of other stronger scientific journals and can be considered a landmark for the use of film as a means of access to medical knowledge. |

| Translated abstract: | El objetivo del trabajo fue caracterizar la Revista Medicina y Cine efectuando un estudio exploratorio de los artículos publicados durante 2005-2008. Los datos se obtuvieron de la revista extrayéndose información sobre artículos, autorías, referencias bibliográficas, palabras clave y portadas. Se calcularon indicadores bibliométricos cuantitativos de producción y de consumo.Se registró un 54% de trabajos originales; respecto de las autorías, se constató un índice de cooperación de 1.82 autores/artículo y un 52% firmados por un único autor. La procedencia geográfica de los autores mostró preponderancia de Salamanca seguido de una participación creciente de autores de otros lugares de España.El promedio de citas por artículo fue aproximadamente 8, equiparable al resultado del mapa bibliométrico de España, viendo el Índice de Price cercano al 39%El tipo documental más referenciado fueron los libros y los artículos de revistas científicas y el 47% del total de las referencias procedieron de documentos en español.La Revista Medicina y Cine ha evolucionado satisfactoriamente, manteniéndose dentro de los indicadores generales de otras revistas científicas más afianzadas y puede considerarse un referente del empleo del cine como una forma de acceso al conocimiento médico. |
