The entity-relationship model (E-R) is applied to the descriptive part of the “Spanish Cataloguing Rules” with the objective of to detect its strong and weak points with a view to the upgrade of this code, to adapt to the new normative international that is gestating in these moments. After a brief historical context in the make an appointment the key points in the development of the contemporary cataloguing, the specific objectives are exposed that are sought to get with this study. After explaining the methodology carried out, the main obtained results are pointed out. This section is structured by means of a series of keys questions to those that the cataloguing codes have to make front to adapt to the new means, new publication forms, and new diffusion and access of the information in the digital environment. By way of conclusion, they are picked up a series of recommendations that it should be kept in mind for the development of the new instructions that it take place in a future

Se aplica el modelo entidad-relación (E-R) a la parte descriptiva de las “Reglas de catalogación españolas” con el objetivo de detectar sus puntos fuertes y carencias con vistas a la actualización de dicho código, para adaptarse a la nueva normativa internacional que se está gestando en estos momentos. Tras una breve contextualización histórica en la que se citan los puntos claves en el desarrollo de la catalogación contemporánea, se exponen los objetivos específicos que se pretenden conseguir con este estudio. Tras explicar la metodología llevada a cabo, se reseñan los principales resultados obtenidos. Dicho apartado se estructura mediante una serie de preguntas claves a las que los códigos de catalogación tienen que hacer frente para adaptarse a los nuevos medios, nuevas formas de publicación, y nuevos modos de difusión y de acceso de la información en el entorno digital. A modo de conclusión, se recogen una serie de recomendaciones que deberían tenerse en cuenta para el desarrollo de las nuevas instrucciones que se produzcan en un futuro.
