Geologica Acta came into existence in 2003 as a result of this expansion process, and with the aim to be a modern and efficient instrument for the quick spread of Earth Science Research. Is a non profit OPEN ACCES international journal which has the aim to stimulate rapid diffusion of results and efficient exchange of ideas between the widespread communities of researchers in Earth Science.The journal is funded by the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), the Institute of Earth Sciences “Jaume Almera” (ICTJA-CSIC), the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). It receives additional financial support from the Institut Cartògràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC).
