El artículo se publica como etapa inicial de una investigación enfocada en el estudio de la vivienda efímera urbana, con el fin de encontrar en ésta principios aplicables a otras arquitecturas. Partiendo de la definición de este tipo de arquitectura, y con el fin de empezar a buscar metodologías adecuadas para su estudio, se plantea la pregunta sobre si ésta puede considerarse arquitectura vernácula. Para responder a la pregunta, se hace una revisión bibliográfica de algunos de los principales autores relacionados con el tema en los últimos 50 años, centrándose en las distintas definiciones de arquitectura vernácula que proponen. Los puntos comunes encontrados en dichas definiciones se comparan con las características principales de la vivienda efímera urbana, con el objetivo de demostrar la pertinencia de su inclusión en el campo de estudio de la arquitectura vernácula. Hecha la comprobación propuesta, se abre el camino para la siguiente etapa de la investigación.

Publishing this paper is the primary stage of an investigation focused on temporary urban dwellings, undertaken to discover if the principles that shape it can be applied to other forms of architecture. Breaking from the definition of this type of architecture, and with the aim of finding adequate methodologies for it’s study, the question must be contemplated: can it be vernacular architecture? In order to answer this question, it was necessary to revise important literature written on the subject during the past fifty years, and focus on the different definitions of vernacular architecture it offered. Any agreements in the aforementioned definitions were compared to temporary urban dwellingsprincipal characteristics. The purpose of which was to demonstrate the pertinence of the inclusion of this topic in the field of vernacular architecture. The successful completion of this demonstration sets the basis for the second part of the investigation.
